Malacca International Motorsports Circuit, a brilliant circuit which combines various type of tight corners. Known as the largest go kart circuit in south east asia, it have been selected for the next spot for Good Year international drift series for 2010 on 31st of July and 1st of August. As a go kart circuit, the width of the track itself is quite small in some area resulting a very technical track for drifting.
This time, they really looking for the marking criteria such as the speed, angle and lining. Time for some serious entry speed !!

Qualifying were divided into two group, group A and group B which they were given a period of time for official practice on that sunday morning

Owh yes...the burnout..the smell of rubber, nitrous added up with the sound of spooling turbine..You definitely gotta love this


The track were partially closed on some corners producing three very challenging corners for the drifters to tear it up. The first corner stretch pretty long after straight full throttle passing in front of the grandstand. Average speed of initiating is around 80-90kmh at the first outer clipping point.



Some of the drivers are brave enough to get close to the tire wall at first initiation. Imagine going close to the wall, brushing the rear tail as initiation commence, what a great adrenalin rush !



Coming next is a transition to right side into the second corner. Around here, the speed mostly had reduced to around 60k-70kmh but still drivers are putting the pedal to the metal when coming out of the first corner. Owh its really good to hear the sound of rev cut off here.

White smoke was tremendously coming out from his exhaust indicating another engine failure. This time, its the new piston. 3 out of 4 pistons were fried but luckily the car were able to be driven until the best 16. Zul manage tp qualify for the best 16 and faced Ivan Lim.

Being inside a track, beside photographing the event, at the same time watching a single car in practice session tearing up the track is really amazing as you can study each car in turn, hear the throttle modulation, see their braking point and view their different lines of attacking. One car and one driver together against one corner.Coming up next is the second corner. Most probably this is the spot where all drifter do what they do best, yup..smoooooking





And yes lastly the last corner after a quick transition coming out from the second corner into this one. Most of the driver need to slow down a bit when going into this corner as this one is a bit small compared to the previous corners.

Official practice ends at around 12pm before the official qualifying session starts. Out from around 20++ drivers, only top 16 were selected for the tandem battle next. During the break between the practice and qualifying session, i take the time to do some pit walk.

While lepaking at Along rempit's pit with eddie, why not have some photos ?? that should be a good idea..so we proceed. Just a simple photoshoot since we dont have so much of a time.










Ok, proceed with the qualifying, 16 top qualifiers will be battling for the 1st place prize. Among them is Tengku Djan who qualify with the highest mark, Ariff Johanis, Chester Lim, Rhenadi Arinton, Along rempit, Ivan Lau, Tan Tat Wei, Mervyn Nakamura, Bullzai, Zul hachi and others.







Next on the list is the tandem battle that we've all been waiting for. Representing Good Year is Ariff Johannis, Jane, Loyai, Michael Gan

A drift car is not complete without a battle scar, this one, piloted by Lim Zee King shows that he's in serious businessNext on the starting grid is Zul hachiroku. Facing him on the best 16 tandem battle is Ivan Lim with his S13. Both of the car is powered by the same engine but this pearl baby blue KE aint giving up yet. This one still have a secret weapon which is the weight of the car itself. The only bad part of it is that the engine would probably last for 2-3 laps more. Apart from the engine problem, Zul still perform his best effort in the tandem battle. Cant wait for his missile hachiroku to come out from the paint shop.
